MoistureShield: The A.E.R.T. Story
A recognized pioneer in the industry, Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies, Inc. (A.E.R.T.) has been manufacturing composite wood building products for over 20 years. In 1988, the Brooks family founded A.E.R.T. when they discovered an eco-friendly way to create high quality building components using reclaimed wood fibers and recycled plastics.
Since then, A.E.R.T. has further developed and patented its proprietary waste plastics reclamation technologies which allow us to recover waste plastics from the by-product of other recycling operations, as well as from pre- and post-consumer waste streams. These efforts include our development of polyethylene film recycling technology in conjunction with Dow Chemical Company.
Professional builders have come to rely on the value and consistency for which A.E.R.T. is known. And, in 1992, leveraging this reputation and expertise, we introduced our first composite decking products ones that resist swelling, rot and termites, and are easier to maintain and longer lasting. This is all made possible from our patented process of “total encapsulation”.
This process means that our products are manufactured under several unique patents wherein the wood fibers are aligned and encapsulated in plastic. The plastic surrounds and bonds to the wood fibers, making them moisture resistant. The wood fibers reinforce the plastic, making it stiffer and greatly reducing its thermal movement. Our decking planks are extruded and allowed to cool slowly, which means the boards will not twist or warp.
Tough and beautiful, moisture-resistant MoistureShield® Composite Decking is made from 90% pre- and post-consumer recycled content for an environmentally friendly decking option. Providing peace of mind, A.E.R.T. warrants MoistureShield products against rot, decay and termite damage with a limited warranty ranging from 20 years to lifetime, depending on the product.
